I was frankly very surprised at all the hate on the finale, primarily because what most people focused on was the flash-sideways ending... when the best stuff was always the action taking place on the island. The 'heart of the island' story and the death of John/MIB was brilliantly written, shot, acted and scored, and stands up to similar multi-million dollar feature films.

Complete bollocks. I did not hate the Lost finale because "it was in fact the end of a series". That was its saving grace. Finally! This crapfest comes to an end! Lost started out pretty cool. It was exciting, intriguing, adventurous. But it went downhill very fast. By the third season at most, I hated each and every one of these characters with a passion, I found myself bored to tears watching episodes but I trudged along thinking, just a few more episodes, it won't be worth it but who knows? It was literally torture to wit through season 6 and that finale was just adding insult to injury.

I cried like never before. Therefore on a personal note it was perfect.
Life is hard and then you all die. Better to endure that hardship with people you love and forming bonds with those you're thrust together with. That's one of the ultimate tenets of living - why not explore it in a scifi show. I felt that in the finale in a way no ogther religion could make me feel it.
Thanks Lost.

Great article, I've been frustrated with Lost haters ever since the show ended. I don't understand how anyone watching the show can conclude that they were dead the whole time. I've listened to people site the fact that they pan away to the wreckage at the end, which I agree wasn't the best way to end the show, but do people think that everything was cleaned up or something? Of course there's still going to be a crash site on the beach, even after six years.

My take on the whole thing is that your opinion of the ending says more about you than it does the show, or it's writers. The entire show was built on our attachment to these characters, and one of the main themes--if not THE main theme--was faith v. reason. Jack, the man of science and rationale against Locke, the champion of belief and trust in what you've experienced no matter how strange or inexplicable it may seem. My personal view is that if you're a Jack, the ending is going to displease you. You want a concise explanation for everything, and it must be proven without a doubt. Likewise, if you're more of a Locke, you realize how much enjoyment you experienced following this band of castaways for six seasons, and are comfortable knowing that with "Lost", and with life, there are many unanswerable questions, and to demand resolution is just pissing in the wind; when you could be flying a kite.

Christian's speech to Jack in the finale says as much, and in the end I look at Lost as an allegory for life. We shouldn't worry so much about the why's and what's, as we should enjoy the who's. You can spend a lifetime looking for answers and being disappointed, or you can spend it taking advantage of the most extraordinary thing imaginable, the human experience. It can be tragic, joyous, or more commonly a mixture of both, but no other species--that we know of--has the ability to be cognizant of it's existence the way we are. I guess it's not hard to figure out that I'm a Locke, but I did start out as a Jack, so there's hope for the rest of you too.

Btw. I am crushed by the death of Miss Watson. I really shipped Miss Watson and Norman.

At least, I am grateful that it was not Norman who killed Miss Watson.

Btw. Let me explain about Norman's 'conversation' with 'Mother' and black outs.

When Norman has 'conversation' with 'Mother', he 'remembers' clearly the conversation and what he actually does afterward, whereas when he blacks out, he does not remember what he does during the black out.

Even if Norman had a black out and killed Miss Watson, he still should remember that he had a 'conversation' with 'Mother' and did what 'Mother' told him to do before the black out. He would remember killing Miss Watson, but he still should remember what 'Mother' told him to do.

When he confronted Norma, he claimed he does not remember due to black outs, not even being at Miss Watson's apartment, in fact, he doesn't mention Miss Watson at all! He still should remember even if he had a black out, and he ain't telling.

This leads me to believe Norman is lying to Norma about black outs because he doesn't want to tell Norma about the 'conversation' he had with 'Mother' and also to protect Miss Watson from professional jeopardy (Norman at this point clearly does not know Miss Watson is dead.)

"Not enough Dylan and not enough Emma in this episode although the scenes they were in were still quite great."

Truly indeed. Did you notice family resemblance between Norma and Dylan, but very little between Dylan and Norman or Norma and Norman?

Btw. Dylan lost his 'v' when he was 12, Norma lost hers when she was 13 by her brother.

You know the saying, 'Blood is thicker than water." and since Norma obviously behaves in a way that is inappropriate and she herself was a victim of incest by her brother, could this explain her distant relationship with Dylan? Maybe Dylan reminds her of her brother and Dylan lost his with Norma as a result of Norma behaving in a way she 'learned' from her brother?

Also, Bradley, maybe she has an electra complex with her father, and that is the reason why her mother threw all his stuff after he's dead? so that she could 'start over' ala Norma?

Yes, Emma is growing on me also.

"I hope Nestor Carbonell ends up having more plots come next season. His acting during the dock scene was fantastic."

Let's not forget his 'eyelashes'.

Now, that's a new angle you provided I had not thought of before and the writers could create more Hitchcockian theme (Do you remember 'Suspicion'?)
