If you have not heard of Haim, allow this to be your introduction. Haim is a trio of sisters that hail from Los Angeles. They blend classic rock and R&B with wafting melodies and the occasional guitar riff. As teens, the sisters say they were influenced by everyone from TLC and Aaliyah to Fleetwood Mac, so the blending of sounds makes sense. Classic rock and R&B are two genres that do not get mixed together often and yet Haim does it well. Their debut EP Forever included three songs filled with acapella harmonies, folky guitar rythms and dark hip-hop beats. The EP began gaining buzz that earned Haim spots on tour with Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros and Mumford and Sons.
As a follow-up to Forever, Haim recently released a new single “Don’t Save Me” along with a video to go with it. “Don’t Save Me” is their catchiest song yet. The girls show off smooth harmonies backed by dark layered synths with textures that give the song a bit of a retro ‘80s vibe. There is no word on when Haim will release their full-length debut album, but for now you can pick up Forever and “Don’t Save Me” on iTunes now. Watch the girls go head-to-head in a basketball scrimmage in their music video below. They’ve got skills.
